I wish to welcome all readers. This will be the first post of a blog in which I will discuss various things about Fargoer and things related to it.
Paul Anthony inquired if I would be interested in a chain blog in which writers answer short questions of their work-in-progress. It is called "The next big thing". I accepted and here are my answers.
What is the working title of your next book?
Fargoer
Where did the idea come from for the book?
It was built on the combination of fast-paced, old pulp fantasy, Finnish folklore and poetry and my interest in the Viking Age Finland.
What genre does your book fall under?
It is fantasy. To be more specific, it is historical fantasy with touches of epic here and there.
What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?
That is a tough one, I don't think named actors who I know of would do the parts properly. Perhaps some talented but unknown indie actors would be best-suited for the job.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
A lone woman's struggle against her fate in a world of myths, legends and hardships.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
It will be self-published.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?
From two to three years. And it changed quite much after that.
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
For the energy I would like to be able to do Howard's Conan tales, but without the racial and social "brutishness". The poetry parts are heavily inspired by Kalevala, the Finnish national epic. The depiction of nature is heavily influenced by Juhani Aho and other old classics of Finland.
Who or what inspired you to write this book?
All the strong women around me.
What else about the book might pique the reader's interest?
I truly think that my approach to fantasy is somehow unique and the world behind this story is not your average pseudo-middle-ages fantasy, but more primitive and elusive place. This is the first part of a continuing saga that will span at least three volumes.
Thanks for reading, below you can find the answers of Paul Anthony and the author who tagged him, Clive Eaton.
