Thanks to lovely Miika for sending me a review copy of this book.
Far North. Time long gone. Place only existent in the depths of our ancient past.
Kainu tribe has Vierra, a strong-minded girl who embarks on a journey with her cousin. But this is no ordinary journey. This is a journey to her adulthood. Her future has already been decided, but can she break what has been painted in stone? Will she find her place in the tribe, or fulfill her destiny and become a Fargoer?
This is only one in series of books set in beautiful Finland. The nature described in this book amazed me, and showed how truly amazing Finland is. The writer has done an amazing job of creating characters and a world you feel like you are a part of. The main character Vierra was created like a strong, independent woman which I absolutely loved. This book was written in Finnish, but since that is the language I still haven’t learned I read it in English, and thought it was a job well done considering translation. Each of the stories stand for itself, yet they all come together somehow. That is one more thing which makes this book amating. Encounters with different characters bring risk and uncertainty. But they also bring a lot of opportunities. Vierra is faced with many difficult decisions, and I loved to read about her journey of self-discovery and fight for her destiny. Unusual, magical, with lots of strong messages and blendings within nature and humans, spirituality and life.
I loved it and can’t wait for the rest of the series.
